Recently, Forbes unveiled its annual ranking of CEOs from Hong Kong-listed Chinese-capitalized stocks, along with detailed statistics on their compensation packages. This list provides an interesting snapshot into the financial rewards reaped by leaders of these prominent firms.

According to the report, Xia Haijun, the CEO of China Evergrande, tops the list with an impressive salary exceeding HK$270 million (approximately $35 million USD), showcasing his significant influence and leadership within the real estate sector. Coming in second place is Yang Yuanqing, CEO of Lenovo Group, who secured a staggering compensation package worth around HK$150 million ($19 million USD).
Liu Chiping, President of Tencent Holdings, has also joined the exclusive “HK$100 million Club,†earning approximately HK$120 million ($15 million USD). Meanwhile, Zhu Li, Executive Director and President of Legend Holdings, received HK$32 million ($4 million USD), placing him eighth on the list.
As mainland Chinese companies continue to play a larger role in the Hong Kong stock market, we see a clear upward trend in the remuneration of their top executives. Yang Yuanqing’s high earnings have sparked debates over executive pay in recent years, highlighting the ongoing conversation about fairness and equity in corporate governance.

This year’s rankings reflect not only the growing prominence of Chinese enterprises in global markets but also the increasing competition among top-tier firms for talent. It will be fascinating to see how these trends evolve as businesses adapt to changing economic landscapes and investor expectations.
