Lately, quite a few of my friends have run into issues with their Windows 10 activations. I’ve been hearing that some of the so-called "third-party" activation methods have either been shut down by Microsoft or are no longer valid. It’s causing a lot of anxiety because people are worried about losing their activation status.

Don’t panic just yet! Let me walk you through the steps to check your activation status. First, right-click on "This PC" and go to Properties. You’ll see whether your copy of Windows 10 is activated or not.

If you’re curious about the type of activation method being used, head over to "Settings > Update & Security > Activation." This will give you more insight into how your system was activated.

Now, if your system shows "Digital License Activation," especially if you didn’t install Windows 10 yourself, it might be worth double-checking. Sometimes, these licenses aren’t permanent.
To verify whether your activation is permanent, press Win + R, then type `slmgr.vbs -xpr`. A pop-up should confirm whether your activation is permanent or not. Here's what it looks like:
On the other hand, if your activation has an expiration date, it’s likely due to using a KMS activation or a trial version. These won’t last forever!

To get more detailed information, you can also run `slmgr.vbs -dlv` in the command prompt. If you see a limited time frame, it’s almost certainly pirated software.

If you want to avoid any headaches, it’s best to activate Windows 10 properly. You could use a valid Windows 7 or 8 product key, or take advantage of Microsoft’s special offer for eligible users. To make things easier, I’ll summarize the process again.

After upgrading, sign in with your Microsoft account. Your system will show as activated, and it will be permanent. The only downside is that your account may be flagged as having special needs, which could result in occasional reminders from Microsoft. But hey, it’s free—so let’s not complain too much!
