NextVR, a platform renowned for its live VR sports and concert experiences, has recently ventured into original VR suspense content with a project titled "Paranormal Evidence." Based in California, this VR live broadcast company initiated the series, describing it as "a virtual reality exploration of unexplained phenomena in reportedly haunted locations from the past."
The first episode premiered on August 1st, focusing on the decrepit halls of the Pennhurst Asylum. The aim was to capture evidence of past incidents through an investigative team led by Jack Kassewitz. The NextVR engineering team utilized their cutting-edge VR real-time capture technology to develop a proprietary camera system capable of photographing full-spectrum images in dimly lit environments. This allows viewers to perceive details that even seasoned investigators might miss.
NextVR CEO David Cole expressed excitement about expanding their entertainment offerings, stating, "We're creating original content tailored for VR enthusiasts, significantly broadening NextVR's portfolio. 'Paranormal Evidence' is an immersive journey into eerie spaces and a testament to the allure of the supernatural."
Described as a supernatural reality show, the program features a simulated non-fiction segment showcasing the investigators' fearful reactions. Naturally, the "investigation" won't yield definitive proof, though the title certainly grabs attention. The team claims success in documenting several unsettling occurrences, which undoubtedly heighten the experience in VR. Cole added, "When you don your VR headset, you'll quickly join our team at Pennhurst Asylum. You'll become part of the investigation, making this a uniquely suited experience for VR. While 'Paranormal Evidence' may not appeal to everyone, its innovative use of VR camera technology is noteworthy. More importantly, it helps diversify NextVR's content portfolio and introduces them to original content creation."
Prior to this, NextVR had dabbled in shorter original pieces, but "Paranormal Evidence" signals a shift towards more substantial productions, each episode likely lasting around 30 minutes.
Cole discussed their strategy with Road to VR, saying, "First off, we've begun mapping out our own direction. We've pinpointed areas that resonate with our audience and enhance the impact of sports and entertainment. Specifically, we can craft storylines aligned with our audience's interests. Collaborating with partners to meet program demands is something we're thrilled about."
He continued, "Certain programming concepts we're exploring are incredibly promising. Our position allows us to cater to viewer preferences through innovative VR content since we already have engaged audiences and a clear understanding of their tastes."
"Paranormal Evidence" is available via the NextVR app starting August 1st, compatible with Samsung Gear VR and Google Daydream systems. Today at 5 PM, the app will offer a VR trailer video.
As someone who caught a glimpse of this new venture, I must say it feels like a bold step forward for NextVR. The integration of VR technology with paranormal themes is intriguing, even if the subject matter isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. It’s exciting to see how they’ll continue to evolve their content offerings.
