Supports five satellite positioning systems at the same time, providing smarter global positioning for smartphones

Beijing, December 11, 2013 - Broadcom, Inc. (Nasdaq: BRCM), a global leader in innovative solutions for wired and wireless communications, today announced the launch of a Global Positioning Satellite System (GNSS) chip, the BCM47531, which can be used simultaneously. Signals from five satellite systems (GPS, GLONASS, QZSS, SBAS, and Beidou satellites) are used to generate positioning data. After the new addition to the Beidou constellation, the number of satellites available for smartphones has been increased, and navigation accuracy has been improved, especially in urban areas where performance is affected by buildings and shelters.

According to data released by Gartner, in the first quarter of 2013, more than 226 million smartphones were sold to end users in Asia, increasing the region’s share of the global mobile phone market to 53.1%. 1. With the increasing popularity of smartphones, users have gradually defined positioning and map navigation functions as primary needs. Broadcom's new GNSS system-on-a-chip (SoC) uses its widely-configured architecture platform to reduce the “first time to locate” (TTFF), allowing smartphones to quickly locate and quickly provide navigation map data. The SoC comes with a unique three-band tuned circuit that allows the smartphone to simultaneously receive signals from all major navigation bands (GPS, GLONASS, QZSS, SBAS and Beidou satellite systems). By combining multiple satellites, users can experience more accurate and stable positioning in Asia and around the world.

Charles Abraham, vice president and general manager of Broadcom's GPS division, said: "Broadcom's new GNSS chip supports the Beidou satellite system, helping original equipment manufacturers achieve cost-effective, low-power solutions that enhance positioning in complex urban environments. Capabilities. Our new platform leverages Broadcom's long-standing GNSS innovations, which help smartphone users in almost every region of the world gain a better navigation experience and open the door to new targeted applications."

The BCM47531 platform uses Broadcom's Positioning Service (LBS) technology to provide satellite-aided data to the device. The initial positioning time is only a few seconds. In contrast, receiving orbit data from the satellite itself may take several minutes.

Main features and advantages:

• Supports five satellite systems (GPS, GLONASS, QZSS, SBAS, and Big Dipper) simultaneously, and can calculate position based on measurement information from any of the 88 satellites.

• Broadcom's three-band tuned circuit allows commercial GNSS market users to simultaneously receive information on all three navigation bands: GPS (which includes QZSS and SBAS), GLONASS and Big Dipper, without the need to reconfigure between bands And jumping

• Nearly 2x better positioning accuracy with the Beidou satellite signal application

• Broadcom-hosted reference network to provide top-level assisted global satellite navigation system (AGNSS) assistance data worldwide

• Allows the device to alternate between the best signals from any satellite system, ensuring greater accuracy in cities and harsh environments

• Advanced digital signal processing is used to suppress interference and achieve good satellite signal search and tracking during LTE transmission

• Take advantage of Broadcom's connectivity solutions, including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth Smart, Near Field Communication (NFC), In-House Communication System (IMES) and mobile phone inertial sensor data for optimal indoor and outdoor positioning effect
