The TDK Group has launched a new EPCOS NTC sensor element designed to measure temperatures as high as 650°C. This advanced component utilizes a high-temperature ceramic sensor element, which is connected to a metallized alumina rod and then sealed in a glass package. The result is a highly accurate temperature measurement device with an impressive tolerance of ±1K at 200°C. The glass packaging not only ensures precision but also enhances the sensor's durability and resistance to harsh environments.
This compact sensor measures 16mm in length, with a glass package diameter of just 2mm. It can be optionally equipped with a connection point for the alumina rod, making it versatile for various applications. The sensor is AEC-Q200 compliant, ensuring it meets the rigorous standards required for automotive electronics, particularly in demanding environments.
One of its primary uses is in exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) systems within diesel engines. These systems help reduce nitrogen oxide emissions by recirculating a portion of the exhaust gases back into the engine. The NTC sensor plays a crucial role in monitoring the temperature of these gases, helping to prevent overheating of critical engine components such as the cylinder head and valves.
In electric vehicles, this sensor is used to monitor the temperature of fuel cells, which generate electricity directly from hydrogen. Additionally, it finds application in home appliances like self-cleaning pyrolysis ovens. These ovens operate by heating the interior to around 500°C, breaking down food residues into gases and ash. The NTC sensor ensures precise temperature control during this process, maintaining optimal performance and safety.
Key features include:
- High measurement accuracy
- Glass package design for enhanced durability
- Rugged construction suitable for extreme conditions
- AEC-Q200 compliance for automotive use
- Versatile applications in both automotive and household systems
Whether in vehicle systems or smart home appliances, this NTC sensor delivers reliable and precise temperature monitoring, making it an essential component in modern technology.
