Photovoltaic solar energy, LED lighting... These seemingly beautiful industries have shown their broad prospects at the beginning of this century, so many Zhejiang enterprises regard them as the goal of transformation and upgrading. But in fact, until now, there are very few companies that really enjoy the feast.
LED: Let Zhejiang enterprises dance
Zhang Xiaofei, dean of Zhejiang Institute of Advanced Industrial Technology, likes to describe LEDs like this, Let Everybody Dance (let everyone dance). In 2003, the Ministry of Science and Technology first proposed the development of semiconductor lighting plans, which played a waltz for Zhejiang enterprises to enter the LED.
That year, Jingri’s top management also began to ponder the transformation of LED lighting. Because the competition in the traditional lighting industry was very fierce at that time, Jinghua Lighting was only a small name in the field of outdoor lighting in the province. If you continue to focus on traditional lighting, the future road will become narrower and narrower.
In 2005, Jingri Lighting set up a plant in 100 acres of land in Huzhou to enter the LED industry. In the second year, the number of employees of the company expanded from the original 60 to 100. The newly recruited employees are all technical personnel who serve the LED business. Jingri specially invites Taiwan experts to teach the team.
Compared with the day-to-day work of Jingri, many Zhejiang enterprises have chosen a radical road.
“There was a company in Zhejiang that used to be an electronic board. At that time, two senior engineers from Taiwan started to do LED projects. As a result, the project failed after one year, and all the tens of millions of funds invested in it were squandered.†Today, Cheng Shiyou recalled the situation at the time and was still embarrassed.
The data also shows the degree of enthusiasm of Zhejiang enterprises for the LED industry. According to the national organization code database data, the number of enterprises engaged in LED product development and production in Hangzhou has grown rapidly from 16 in 2000 to 179 at the end of September 2010, an increase of more than ten times. According to preliminary estimates by the Zhejiang Lighting Association, there are currently hundreds of LED lighting companies in the province, and related companies involved in LEDs have been difficult to count.
The baptism of ten cities and ten thousand
The park of Jingri is located on the edge of Jingwu Road in Huzhou City. When night falls, Jingri people will be somewhat proud. Because a streetlight at the entrance of the park is a solar LED product.
"Jingri's LED products have been applied throughout the country and overseas, and our products have a very low after-sales maintenance rate." The company's deputy general manager Fu Venture is very proud of this. The company insisted on doing outdoor lighting at the beginning of the industry. The technology for LED street light distribution has been patented in seven countries.
At present, there are only a handful of companies in the field of outdoor LED lighting in Zhejiang Province. In the first two years, the outdoor LED lighting field was full of fierce fighting, and the original Blue Ocean was quickly “reddenedâ€.
The incident originated from the "Ten Cities and Ten Thousand Miles" project. In 2009, the Ministry of Science and Technology led the “Ten Cities and Ten Thousand Miles†project to promote LED street lights in 21 cities. This has rekindled the enthusiasm of Zhejiang enterprises for LED street lights, and this time the transformation is more urgent for SMEs still in the turmoil of the financial crisis.
But soon many companies found themselves in a situation of “more porridgeâ€, and the ten-city plan was not going well for various reasons. Until now, this national demonstration project has only completed 20% of the progress. Many companies are also dying quickly in the excitement of policy.
In this LED enterprise's flashover, Jingri has always played the role of a spectator. Fu entrepreneur said that government engineering is not a long-term solution for the survival of enterprises. Although outdoor lighting is only a small piece on the LED lighting cake, if it can occupy a large proportion in a small piece, it can also obtain considerable profits.
