Philips Lighting unveiled its breakthrough, state-of-the-art SSL lighting solution at the 2009 New York International Lighting Show: an A-shape LED bulb with a luminous flux of up to 600 lm, and a record that can eventually be used to replace the US market 40W incandescent bulbs for general lighting applications and 60W incandescent bulb technology for the European market (230V). PhilipsLighting's "New Generation" A-shapeSSL prototyping prototype features high efficiency, energy savings, and a fully dimmable range of up to 10% in a high performance package including light output, efficacy, color and dimming .

At present, this feature of the product is unparalleled in the industry, indicating that PhilipsLighting continues to play a leading role in interpreting future lighting. When the bulb is powered by Philips Lumi LEDs' high-performance LUXEON Reb EL LED, the 8W120V bulb has a luminous efficacy of 75 lm/W, which is five times that of an incandescent bulb. The bulb's brightness is fully adjustable and can be as low as 10%, making it ideal for table lamps, ceiling lighting, and other indoor general lighting applications.

A-shapeLED bulbs are often referred to as "future lighting," and the benefits of using LED technology are: bright colors, superior energy efficiency, long life, and minimal maintenance. PhilipsLighting's breakthrough dimmable A-shapeLED bulb enables users worldwide to enjoy the benefits of this high-quality LED bulb that replaces incandescent bulbs. LED replacement bulbs provide illumination for a range of general lighting applications. Comfort and dimming technology, while significantly reducing energy consumption and costs, and greatly improving environmental sustainability.

Philips Lighting's commercial A-shape LED bulb prototype is scheduled to be available by the end of 2010 and will be part of the company's emerging "EnduraLED" family of SSL retrofit solutions in North America.
