ON Semiconductor has launched a complete system-on-chip (SoC) solution for portable consumer electronics products-BelaSigna-R261. This solution integrates a highly optimized digital signal processor (DSP) and an advanced dual-microphone noise reduction algorithm to improve speech intelligibility in noisy environments while maintaining natural speech fidelity.

BelaSigna-R261 eliminates noise from microphone signals in applications such as smartphones, while improving voice quality so that the receiver can clearly hear the user's voice during normal mobile phone calls. When a portable device is used as a meeting, BelaSigna-R261 recognizes and parses up to 6 meters of speech from the 360-degree space of surrounding noise, significantly enhancing speech intelligibility and enhancing the freedom of users, even if they are not pointing at the microphone Even away from the microphone.

This SoC integrates DSP, voltage regulator, phase-locked loop (PLL), level shifter and memory. Compared with other solutions, such a high degree of integration reduces the bill of materials (BOM). The integrated algorithm can be customized so that the required balance between noise reduction and voice quality can be achieved for each specific application. This complete solution minimizes the time and engineering work required for design-in, because the design team does not need to develop or acquire algorithms, nor does it need to design complex support and interface circuits.

BelaSigna-R261 SoC simply plugs directly into the microphone input of a digital microphone interface (DMIC) or baseband chip. This SoC can be used in cheap omnidirectional microphones designed by cost-conscious original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to make the microphone layout more flexible. No need to adjust the microphone on the production line, which further saves time and cost.

The new SoC is packaged in a very compact 5.3mm2WLCSP package, and takes up much less board space than other alternatives. Even the most space-constrained form factor of portable consumer electronics products can be used.

BelaSigna-R261SoC is aimed at voice capture applications, including notebooks, mobile phones, network cameras and tablets. The current consumption at 1.8V is less than 16mA, and the power consumption is only half of many competitive products on the market.
