Medical robot technology engineering research center has been approved "future medical" is already within reach

Can you imagine walking into a hospital in Shenyang the next day, only to be greeted not by a nurse, but by a friendly medical service robot? At the 2018 Shengjing International Medical Forum, it was revealed that the Liaoning Medical Surgery and Rehabilitation Robot Technology Engineering Research Center is set to be established in the city. Among its key projects, rehabilitation and nursing robots are expected to gain market approval this year, bringing the vision of "future healthcare" closer than ever before. According to Li Xuewei, deputy dean of the Xinsong Robotics Central Research Institute, most surgical robots currently used in hospitals are still dominated by foreign patents. However, this is about to change. The newly approved center, a joint effort between China Medical University Shengjing Hospital, the Shenyang Institute of Automation under the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Shenyang Xinsong Robotics Co., Ltd., will be located at Shengjing Hospital. The first product expected to reach the market is an intervention robot, marking a significant step forward for domestic medical robotics. "The successful development of surgical robots is crucial for clinical applications," said Li Xuewei. "We have a team of 100 researchers, and Shengjing Hospital has many senior physicians involved in the R&D process, ensuring that we address real-world challenges in medical procedures." This strong collaboration between the hospital and the robotics research group aims to accelerate breakthroughs in domestic medical technology, making the "future of healthcare" more tangible. At the forum, Li also introduced several upcoming medical robots. One of them is the smart bed and chair integrated robot, set to launch in October. It can automatically adjust the patient's position, clean up waste, and send health data to an associated app in real time. Another is the high-end intelligent nursing bed, which helps patients move independently and reduces the burden on nurses and families. In the rehabilitation sector, walking assist and lower limb rehabilitation robots are set to be launched this year, significantly improving recovery times for patients. Additionally, an EEG-based cognitive training robot is designed for children with brain dysplasia, offering targeted rehabilitation support. On the surgical front, Xinsong’s research includes robots for orthopedics, neurosurgery, and minimally invasive procedures, enabling doctors to perform precise, micro-level surgeries. Meanwhile, dispensing and delivery robots are being developed to assist pharmacists and transport medical supplies safely and efficiently. The home-intelligent robot, named Jiale, has already hit the market and sold 1,000 units within just 10 minutes of its release. It supports telemedicine, video consultations with doctors, emergency calls, health monitoring, chronic disease management, and even companionship for the elderly. With these advancements, the integration of robotics into healthcare is no longer a distant dream—it's becoming a reality. As Shenyang continues to lead in this field, the future of medicine is looking brighter and more intelligent than ever before. Source: Shenyang Daily Author: Shang Zhiwen
