Medical robot technology engineering research center has been approved "future medical" is already within reach

Can you imagine walking into a hospital in Shenyang the next day and being greeted not by a nurse, but by a friendly medical service robot? On March 13th, during the “2018 Shengjing International Medical Forum,” it was announced that the Liaoning Medical Surgery and Rehabilitation Robot Technology Engineering Research Center will be established in Shenyang. This marks a significant step toward integrating robotics into healthcare. Among its projects, rehabilitation and nursing robots are expected to be approved for sale this year, bringing the future of medical care closer than ever. According to Li Xuewei, deputy dean of the Xinsong Robotics Central Research Institute, most surgical robots currently used in hospitals are dominated by foreign patents. However, the newly established center, a collaboration between China Medical University Shengjing Hospital, the Shenyang Institute of Automation, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Shenyang Xinsong Robotics Co., Ltd., is set to change that. The first product expected to hit the market is an intervention robot, signaling a new era for domestic medical robotics. Li Xuewei emphasized that the successful development of surgical robots is crucial for clinical applications. His team includes 100 researchers, and Shengjing Hospital has also brought in numerous senior physicians to ensure that these robots address real-world challenges in medical procedures. This strong collaboration between the hospital and the robotics research group is accelerating breakthroughs in medical technology, making the "future of healthcare" more tangible. At the forum, Li demonstrated several upcoming medical robots. One of them is a smart bed and chair integrated robot, set to launch in October. It can automatically reposition patients, clean up waste, and send health data to a connected app in real time. Another is a high-end intelligent nursing bed, designed to assist both nurses and family members. It allows patients to move freely, sit up, or even return to bed at night, offering greater independence for those with mobility issues. In the field of rehabilitation, robots like the walking assist and lower limb rehabilitation systems are set to help patients recover faster or delay deterioration. A cognitive training robot using EEG technology is also under development, aimed at helping children with brain dysplasia. On the surgical front, Xinsong’s research covers orthopedics, neurosurgery, minimally invasive procedures, and interventional therapy. These robots support doctors in performing precise, micro-level surgeries. Other innovations include dispensing and delivery robots, which help pharmacists accurately dispense medications and transport medical supplies safely. There's also the Jiale home intelligent robot, which supports telemedicine, emergency calls, health monitoring, and even companionship for the elderly. It sold over 1,000 units within 10 minutes of its release last year. With these advancements, the vision of a smarter, more efficient healthcare system is becoming a reality—one robot at a time.
