Volkswagen ID officially unveiled at the Guangzhou Auto Show, which was the first show in Asia. Positioned as a compact version, the ID model is a fully automatic electric vehicle with a range of 400 to 600 km after a single charge. The production model based on ID will be launched in 2020.


The ID adopts a four-door design with length, width and height of 4100mm, 1800mm and 1530mm respectively. The length of the car is about 155mm shorter than that of golf. The wheelbase of 2750mm is 130mm more than golf, and the wheelbase of Passat is almost the same. At the same time, the ID's suspension uses a minimalist design.

For the interior, the ID sublimates the traditional cockpit into an interactive center like a mobile lounge, creating a feature-rich open space (OpenSpace). The spacious space and simple and easy-to-use operating system allow the car to enjoy a new driving experience.

The ID is the first compact concept car developed by Volkswagen based on the MEB platform. The MEB platform is called “Electric Vehicle Modular Platform” and is a platform specially designed for pure electric vehicles. It features a long wheelbase; a minimum turning radius of 9.9m; a flat lithium battery is placed on the chassis to reduce the center of gravity of the vehicle; the multi-link rear axle incorporates a drive unit and a decoupled subframe to optimize the vehicle. Dynamic performance and ideal quietness.

In the power section, this concept car is equipped with a motor with a maximum power of 170 hp. The pure electric cruising range will reach 600km. It will be mass-produced in 2020 and will be released to the market. The price will be comparable to that of the current golf, thus completing 2025 for the public. Plan to sell 1 million electric vehicles a year.
