5G network coming mobile phone also needs to change
5G communication technology is no longer a distant dream—it's quickly becoming a reality that everyone is excited about. In China, the three major telecom operators are accelerating their efforts to build 5G trial sites, aiming to be the first to capture the growing market. As the 5G era approaches, it’s expected to spark a new wave of innovation and consumer demand. However, to take full advantage of this next-generation network, users will need to upgrade their smartphones.
The MWC2018 conference once again put 5G in the spotlight. At the event, Huawei showcased its commercial 5G chip, the Baron 5G01, along with corresponding terminal devices. Other domestic tech giants also presented their own 5G prototypes, showing how rapidly the industry is advancing. This highlights the global competition for leadership in the 5G space.
According to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, China aims to achieve full commercialization of 5G by 2020. Currently, China Mobile, China Telecom, and China Unicom are all actively setting up 5G test networks. Notably, one of the largest mobile operators with a massive 4G user base has announced plans to launch its own 5G services by the end of next year, hoping to gain a competitive edge. While some may think 5G is still far off, the pace of development is faster than most people realize.
Compared to the current 4G technology, 5G offers several key improvements. The most obvious benefit is the significantly faster data transfer speed. Reports suggest that 5G can reach download speeds of up to 1.2 GB per second, allowing a 1080P movie to be downloaded in just a few seconds. Additionally, 5G supports low power consumption and high connection density, making it a crucial foundation for the future of the Internet of Things (IoT).
However, to fully enjoy these benefits, users need compatible devices. Right now, none of the smartphones in the hands of ordinary consumers support 5G, even high-end models like the iPhone X. As the 5G era arrives, it's expected to trigger another round of device upgrades. That’s why companies like Huawei, Xiaomi, and Samsung are heavily investing in 5G research and development, preparing for the next big shift in the mobile industry.
