Outdoor LED displays are widely used for advertising and public information, but they face much harsher environmental conditions compared to standard indoor displays. When operating in outdoor settings, these screens are frequently exposed to extreme weather such as high temperatures, typhoons, heavy rain, and lightning. To ensure their safety and stable operation under such conditions, it's essential to implement proper protective measures. Below are some key strategies to safeguard outdoor LED displays during bad weather. First, heat protection is crucial. Outdoor LED displays often have large screen sizes, which means higher power consumption and greater heat generation. High ambient temperatures can lead to overheating, short circuits, or even damage to the circuit boards. To prevent this, manufacturers should ensure that the circuitry is well-designed and durable. During installation, a ventilated casing design can help with heat dissipation. Additionally, cooling systems like fans or air conditioners may be necessary, especially in regions with consistently high temperatures. Second, wind resistance is another important factor. Depending on where the display is installed—whether it's mounted on a wall, embedded into a structure, or hung from a pole—the installation method must be strong enough to withstand strong winds. The steel frame supporting the display must be built to meet typhoon-resistant standards. It's also important to consider seismic resistance to prevent the screen from falling and causing injury or damage. Third, waterproofing is vital, especially in areas with frequent rainfall. The display itself should have a high level of water resistance, typically IP65 rating or higher. This means the modules should be sealed with glue, and waterproof boxes with rubber gaskets should be used to connect the modules and the housing. Proper sealing prevents moisture from entering the system and damaging internal components. Fourth, lightning protection is critical for outdoor LED displays. There are four main aspects to consider: direct lightning protection, where lightning rods should be installed if the display is not within the protection range of nearby tall buildings; induced lightning protection, which involves installing surge protectors on both the power and signal lines; shielding of all cables (power and signal) to ground; and ensuring the grounding system meets required standards. Typically, the front-end grounding resistance should be less than or equal to 4 ohms, while the equipment room grounding should be less than or equal to 1 ohm. By implementing these protective measures, outdoor LED displays can operate safely and reliably, regardless of the weather conditions. Proper planning, quality materials, and professional installation are all essential to ensuring long-term performance and durability in challenging environments.

Ceramic Arrester

The Zinc Oxide Type Surge Arrester is the latest advanced over-voltage protector for distribution line and power stationdevice. Incorporated with zinc oxide and other metal oxide as the core resistor disc, the volt-ampere characteristics and thethrough-current capability of the resistor disc are improved drastically compared with the conventional SiC type surge arrester.
Under nominal operating voltage, the current through the surge arrester is only about micro-ampere grade. When the surgearrester experiences an over-voltage, the resistor disc with excellent non-inear characteristics will increase the curent throughthe surge arrester to several thousand amperes instantaneously, The surge arrester is in a conducting state and then will releasethe over-voltage energy to the earth and thereby protects power distribution / transmission device against the impact of over voltage.
